The Essential Role of Falconry Hoods:
Falconry hoods are an integral part of a falconer's toolkit and are designed to help keep birds calm during transport, health checks or while waiting for the hunt.
Dutch Falconry Hoods (pictured left):
Dutch falconry hoods are known for their distinct design and historical significance. Originating in the Netherlands, these hoods feature a rounded and compact shape. They are typically crafted from leather or suede, with intricate stitching and detailing that showcases the craftsmanship of the falconer. The elongated shape of the hood allows for a comfortable fit while preventing the bird from being distracted by its surroundings. These hoods often come in a variety of colours, offering a touch of personalisation for each bird of prey.
Anglo-Indian Falconry Hoods (pictured right):
Anglo-Indian falconry hoods, as the name suggests, have their origins in the British colonial era in India and crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Often used for Hawks, Buzzards and Eagles (due to the shape of their head). Where the Dutch hood is made from 3 pieces of leather the Anglo-Indian hood is made from just one piece. It's a simpler design but still a well fitting and a very effective hood.
Choosing the Right Falconry Hood:
The choice between Dutch and Anglo-Indian falconry hoods depends on a falconer's preferences and the bird's temperament.
